Someone Had To Made A Real Jasmine Soap

Inside SoapLife360

Why There Are Almost No Real Jasmine Soaps

I have been disappointed by jasmine soap more times than I can count.

As a cosmetologist with over 25 years in the beauty industry, I have touched, tested, and purchased more products than most people will see in a lifetime. I know what luxury is supposed to feel like. I know what ingredients are supposed to do. And I know when someones lying about real Jasmine flower oil.

What People Are Actually Searching For

When we researched jasmine soap online across reviews, forums, and beauty communities; the same frustration kept surfacing. People wanted jasmine soap that actually smelled like jasmine. Not a jasmine-adjacent blend. Not a synthetic interpretation of what someone in a lab decided jasmine should smell like A real jasmine forward flower oil profile.

One review we found said it best: a loyal customer gave five stars and still wrote that the jasmine smelled like the secondary ingredient. Five stars, because she still loved the product but the jasmine was buried. And here lies the industry’s problem.

People wanted jasmine soap that actually smelled like jasmine.

Rich Bitch jasmine absolute soap barThe Science

Real jasmine is extremely difficult to be steam distilled the way lavender or peppermint can. The best form of jasmine for cosmetic use is Jasmine Absolute which is an highly concentrated extraction that captures the full, authentic scent of the flower.

Jasmine Absolute is expensive. It is not a shortcut ingredient. Most brands well-intentioned brands will just substitute with a fragrance oil instead. A fragrance oil is not jasmine. It is someone's idea of jasmine, synthesized in a lab. That is why the soap smells like jasmine-flavored something rather than jasmine itself.

And even for the soap makers who do invest in Jasmine Absolute, there is another problem. Jasmine Absolute is notoriously difficult to work with in cold process soap. It accelerates the batch (meaning it moves too fast, seizes up, and can ruin the formula before you finish pouring into the soap mold) Most makers either abandon it entirely or dilute it heavily with other scents just to get it to behave. That is why there are so few real jasmine soaps; they are genuinely hard to make right.

What We Did Differently

Rich B*tch is made with Jasmine Absolute; not fragrance oil…the real thing. When I finally decided to make a jasmine soap, after years of resisting because I knew what it would cost, I brought everything I know about soap making to this bar.

And because Jasmine Absolute accelerates cold process soap, we created a new process especially for it.

Most of our soaps are made with a stick blender throughout the entire process. We typically blend in the minerals, the colorants, the botanicals. That is how we move efficiently and consistently. But Rich B*tch is the most handmade soap we have ever produced.

It’s blended mostly by hand… slowly.Because 25 years of knowing how ingredients behave told us exactly what this soap needed.

Why the Bar Feels the Way It Does

Rich B*tch is lush. Cold-pressed olive oil, coconut oil, sunflower oil, castor oil. Colloidal oatmeal. Rose clay and kaolin clay. Lactic acid for creamy bubbles. Ho Wood and Laurel Leaf essential oils to anchor the jasmine, but to anchor it. To give it a base that lets the jasmine stay forward without fading. Warm water releases the botanicals while the lather builds and disperse a beautiful jasmine aroma.

Why We Almost Did Not Make This Soap

Jasmine Absolute alone changes the cost structure of this luxury handcrafted soap bar. Add beeswax, dual clays, colloidal oatmeal, vitamin E, and two supporting essential oils, and you have a bar that costs significantly more to produce than our usual catalog of soaps.

I resisted making this soap for a long time. But I kept coming back to the same truth: nobody was making the jasmine soap I actually wanted to buy. And if I, with 25 years of formulation knowledge and a deep intolerance for synthetic fragrance could not find it, then the people searching for it online could not find it either.

So we had to make it.

Rich B*tch — Real Jasmine Absolute Soap 5oz. Handcrafted in St. Louis. Scented with Jasmine Absolute. No synthetic fragrance. Very Jasmine Floral forward. The way it was always meant to be.
